Spring Term 2019!

Spring Term 2019! 1

Welcome back and welcome to our new starters. We hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year 2019!

Our new topic is called 'Down on the Farm'. We will be learning about what it would be like to work on a farm, finding out about animals that live on the farm and food that comes from farms. We will also be reading lots of farm stories, singing songs and rhymes about farm animals and the noises that they make.

We are so excited to soon be having our own eggs from the farm in our Nursery which we will keep in a special incubator and watch carefully everyday until we see our baby chicks hatch out of the eggs!

Forest school fun!

As part of our topic 'If you go down to the woods today...' we went on a bear hunt in our forest school! It was so much fun wading through the swishy, swashy grass and splasing in the river. We also went through the swirling, whirling snowstorm and squelched through the thick, oozy mud! We eventually found a narrow, gloomy cave and inside it was a bear! He really enjoyed the honey sandwiches that we had made for him!

In Nursery we love to learn outside!

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back! 1

We are pleased to welcome our new starters into Nursery and welcome back children who are returning to us.

This half term we will be focussing on settling our new children into the Nursery routines and learning about how we look after and share our resources.

Our topic this term is called 'If you go down to the woods today...'

We will be finding out about what we might discover in the woods, reading stories about bears and woodland animals along with visiting and exploring our fantastic forest school area!

We are so excited to be having a Teddy Bears Picnic and making Gruffalo Crumble!

Gentle reminders:

  • Please label all your child's belongings where possible.
  • Can we ask that you only fill your child's drinks bottle with water not juice or fizzy drink.
  • Please can you provide your child with a pair of wellies to remain at school if possible.
  • Book bags with library books to be returned on Friday only (once started)

Thank you for your continued support.

We will be inviting all parents to sign up to class dojo next week (WC.17.09.18)

This is a brilliant resource allowing us the opportunity to share your child's amazing achievements with you and give you an insight into what they get up to when they are at Nursery!

Roll up and Read!

Roll up and Read! 1

We love our new circus themed reading area! We can't wait to get cosy, retelling stories using the puppets and story spoons. We might even have a go at writing our own stories!

This week our 'Hook Book' is all about Harry and his dinosaurs visiting the dentist. We are so excited to show you our new dental surgery in Nursery! We are learning all about dental hygiene and how to brush our teeth.

How you can help smiley

  • Please ensure your child's name is in all their uniform. This helps us at the end of the session when handing out jumpers and cardigans.
  • Your child will bring a story book home every Friday, please return the following Friday so that it can be changed. Please spend time looking at the pictures and talking about the story with your child. Story time is a vital element in your child's communication & language development, preparing them to become writers and enthusiastic readers.
  • Encourage counting by counting as you climb stairs at home, in the supermarket etc. Notice and talk about numbers in the environment e.g. looking at numbers on doors, numbers on buses, numbers in shops etc.
  • Practise oral blending by saying some sounds such as c/u/p and see whether your child can pick out a cup from a group of objects. For segmenting practise you could hold up an object such as a sock and ask your child which sounds they can hear in the word sock?
  • Focus on the initial sounds of words by playing activities including I-spy and matching objects which begin with the same sounds e.g. glittery glass and sucky spaghetti.
  • Sing lots of nursery rhymes and counting songs e.g. Humpty Dumpty and '1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive'.

Our topic this half term is Dinosaurs!

We will be learning the names of the dinosaurs, how long ago they walked our planet and what food they liked to eat. We will be making our own dinosaurs, turning handprints into dinosaurs and finding out about dinosaur fossils!

We will be reading lots of stories about dinosaurs including:

  • Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs
  • Dear Dinosaur
  • T-Rex on Tour
  • Dinosaurs Love Underpants
  • Dinosaur Roar
  • Tyrannosaurus Drip

Each week in Nursery we have a class 'Hook Book'. This engages the children with a specific story, we then go on a train ride around our learning environment to find lots of exciting activities linked to the book.

'Book and Bun' is so much fun!
