Writing

An important pre-curser to writing is spoken language. The use of spoken language show children's level of understanding and is an important skill to develop. Being able to say it helps children to write it!

Y2 and Key Stage 2 both follow a writing journey which builds up skills towards a final piece of written work. Children edit and redraft this work to make improvements. Y1 transfer key writing skills learnt in RWI sessions to their English lessons alongside the use of key texts.

Take a look at our writing journey below. Our spoken language and writing progression grids are also here. If you would like more information on the skills needed for writing, please visit our phonics and spelling pages.
