Our daily homework is to read to an adult at home and practise our times tables and spellings in order to ensure we make the best possible progress during our time in Year 4. Please let your class teacher know when you have read through the Reading Record.
Multiplication Tables Check
The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a key stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of year 4 (in June). The purpose of the MTC is to make sure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level. The MTC is an online test where the pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. For every question they have 6 seconds to answer and in between the questions there is a 3 second rest. Questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times table come up more often. The questions are generated randomly based on the rules of the MTC.
How to prepare: A good way to prepare is start early and build a daily routine practising the times tables. With regular practise children learn all the questions and gain confidence. We suggest practising 10 to 15 minutes a day for optimal results. We have added a list of links to pages that can help pupils practise the skills they need for the MTC:

Our Year 4 learning journey so far...
Our wonderful display boards featuring our learning of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
We experimented with song lyrics by changing a current song to be relevant to the Maya Civilisation, using our Wider Curriculum learning from the Autumn term.
We produced a balanced argument piece of writing to showcase our learning this term about the Maya. We debated whether the Maya have had the greatest influence on our modern day lives or other ancient civilisations we have previously learnt about.
As part of our Science topic, Animals including humans, we undertook an experiment which mirrored the different roles of the digestive system. The bag was the stomach, the tights were the small intestine, liquid in the bowl was the nutrients absorbed into the blood stream and the waste on the table was what would be left in the large intestine!
We enjoyed visiting CAST theatre to watch the pantomime!
Our Christmas display boards, showcasing our learning about 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens.
Practising our coding skills in Computing
Year 4 have had a fantastic day learning all about the Maya with the U.K.'s ONLY Maya Archaeologist - Dr. Diane Davis!
We enjoyed drinking Maya hot chocolate, making chocolate nests, studying artefacts, making calendars and creating our own Maya headdress.
KS2 were excited to have an interactive online lesson with 'Lynn Hobson' Senior Engagement Officer for UK Parliament. We learnt lots about the government and who our local MP is. It got us all thinking about how the country is run and how we have a voice in the issues we care about!
Over the last couple of weeks, we have used our knowledge of Oompa Loompa's from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl to create non-chronological reports. These are just a few examples of our first drafts.
We used water colours to create poppies on a collage of WW1 photos. We also had our one minute silence to remember those who lost their lives.
As part of our Autumn 2, Life Skills unit 'Safety' South Yorkshire Fire Service came to speak to us about Fire Safety.
In order to write in full sentences, we know we have to be confident speaking in full sentences. Today we used our plans to reherse sentences ready for our Big Write tomorrow.
To launch our Science topic on 'Animals including Humans' Dr Julia Norris, a local dentist, came to visit. She answered all our questions about teeth and explained how important it is to look after them.
We used bar models in Maths to help us visualise addition and subtraction word problems.
In Year 4, we have weekly Ukuele lessons.
We used personification, expanded noun phrases and prepositions to produce setting descriptions.
To launch our Autumn term topic about The Maya, we used our chronological knowledge to place the civilisation on a timeline of history.
Our Summer display board, showcasing our learning about 'Kaspar a Prince of Cats'
