British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in our school. The fundamental British values are democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Promoting British Values helps to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain; as a respectful and active member of society.

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that different people will hold different views but despite these differences all people living in England are subject to its law. We encourage our children to have a voice so they can express their views and beliefs in a respectful manner.

At Owston Park Primary we help promote an understanding of these fundamental British Values through assemblies, the curriculum and having the children become involved in the day to day running of the school e.g. school council. When key events are happening within the country we also provide the children at Owston with an immersive learning environment to enhance their understanding of these British Values. In recent years we have:

  • held our own elections,

  • celebrated the Queen's birthday,

  • celebrated the Royal Wedding,

  • held our own London Olympics,

  • remembered the Queen and her incredible life,

  • had our own coronation ceremony in honour of King Charles III.
