"I have always enjoyed learning new languages and I enjoy teaching languages to children because they are so excited to be learning something new and different. I love being able to share my knowledge with the children and help them to understand a completely different culture."
Languages at Owston Park
As part of a new Primary National Curriculum, learning a Modern Foreign Language is now a compulsory requirement for children within Key Stage 2. At Owston Park Primary Academy we teach French as our chosen language.
We aim to develop children’s experience of language acquisition and encourage curiosity about languages. It is important to develop their understanding of what they hear and read, and that they have an ability to express themselves in speech and writing. The children will extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences between French and English as well as strengthening their sense of identity through learning about culture in French speaking countries and comparing it with their own culture.
Teaching is in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum, with modifications in place which allow for the individual and differentiated needs of the children. It takes full account of the different experiences, strengths and interests of the children whilst also complying with the requirements and guidance on inclusion.
