Design and Technology
D&T is the study, design, development and evaluation of products.
Miss Reason is the Design and Technology subject leader.
Miss Reason says:
"What I love about Design and Technology in schools is the process which children go through to reach an end result. Children learn new skills as they evauluate, edit and redesign their work. The satisfaction children show after this process is complete is inspiring. It gives them the courage to make mistakes and to not be afraid to edit their work in the future. It is so rewarding for the children to see their final pieces of work".
The Design and Technology Curriculum at Owston Park
Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject which encourages children to learn to think and work creatively to solve problems. Through a variety of creative and practical activities, we teach the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in a process of designing and making. DT ensures children develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. They build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users and critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others. It plays a fundamental part of children learning how to take risks, become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present Design and Technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
