Remote Education Journey

Well done Year 5! We are so proud of you!

Week 1

Our topic this term is Victorians so we started our remote education journey by learning about Charles Dickens and making a start on our new text – Street Child. In science, we revised our most recent topic which was Space and also started our new topic – living things and their habitats. In maths, we started learning about multiplication and division. We learnt our numbers in French and also learnt about staying safe online with the next lesson of Gooseberry Planet.

Week 2

This week, we have written diary entries from the perspective of Jim Jarvis in Street Child. In history, we have started learning about the Victorians and in art, we have sketched portraits of Charles Dickens. We have been thinking about places of interest in our local area and continued with numbers in French. In maths, we are continuing to learn about multiplication and division.

Week 3

This week, in English, we have been writing a character description of Mr Spink from Street Child and learning about Victorian workhouses in history. In maths, we are continuing to learn about multiplication and division. We have been learning about pulse and rhythm in music and some children even recorded their performances! We have also learnt our French numbers all the way up to one hundred!

Week 4

In English, we have started working on our non-chronological reports about Victorian workhouses. In maths, we have started work on perimeter. We have practised our pattern work skills in art and produced artwork in the style of Gustav Klimt. In music, we have learnt about dynamics and in life skills, we have learnt about food safety in preparation for cooking next week!

Week 5

What a fun week! We did so many creative activities: we designed Victorian cam toys; created artwork in the style of ‘Baby by Gustav Klimt’; cooked a meal for life skills; built snowmen (or made Victorian gruel out of ice) and even dressed to express for Children’s Mental Health Week!
