Spanish
Spanish is the study of the Spanish language.
Our Languages subject leader is Miss Storer
Miss Storer says: I have always had a strong interest in the Spanish language and culture. Growing up, I had family that lived in Spain and enjoyed visiting them each year which meant that my passion for the language began from a young age. I chose to study Spanish as part of my degree at university so when the opportunity came up to become the Spanish lead at OPPA, I was really pleased to take it on. I believe languages are an important part of any child's learning so I will always aim to inspire children to share the same love for them as I do.

Languages at Owston Park
As part of a new Primary National Curriculum, learning a Modern Foreign Language is now a compulsory requirement for children within Key Stage 2. At Owston Park Primary Academy we teach Spanish as our chosen language.
We aim to develop children’s experience of language acquisition and encourage curiosity about languages. It is important to develop their understanding of what they hear and read, and that they have an ability to express themselves in speech and writing. The children will extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences between Spanish and English as well as strengthening their sense of identity through learning about the culture in Spanish speaking countries and comparing it with their own culture.
Teaching is in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum, with modifications in place which allow for the individual and differentiated needs of the children. It takes full account of the different experiences, strengths and interests of the children whilst also complying with the requirements and guidance on inclusion.
