At Owston Park Primary Academy, children succeed in mathematics through high-quality teaching and a deep understanding of number. Our maths curriculum is built on a mastery approach, which supports pupils in developing fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills while meeting the expectations of the National Curriculum.
In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we use the Mastering Number programme to strengthen children's understanding of number and build secure mathematical foundations from an early age. The programme develops confidence, fluency and flexibility with number, helping children to think mathematically and explain their ideas clearly. Through regular discussion, practical exploration and collaborative learning opportunities, pupils are encouraged to share their thinking, develop mathematical vocabulary and build positive attitudes towards mathematics.
