School Development

At our school, we are never complacent. We believe that every child only gets one chance at their primary education, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the experience they receive is the very best it can be. We are committed to continually improving our provision so that all children can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Each year, all staff engage in a core programme of professional development, including safeguarding, first aid and behaviour management training. In addition, all staff participate in a weekly CPD session, ensuring that professional learning remains at the heart of our school culture. We recognise that the quality of education our children receive is directly linked to the knowledge, skills and expertise of our staff.

Our professional development programme is carefully aligned to our key school improvement priorities. This year, these priorities are:

Increasing the percentage of pupils achieving Age-Related Expectations (ARE) in Reading, Writing and Mathematics at Key Stage 2.

Reducing the attainment gap for disadvantaged pupils across the school.

Improving the EYFS learning environment and curriculum delivery to increase the percentage of children achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD).

To support these ambitions, leaders, teachers and support staff participate in a range of high-quality development opportunities throughout the year. These include ISHA (Improvement in School through Handwriting and Art) to strengthen handwriting outcomes, Talk for Writing to foster a love of writing and improve writing standards, NCETM Maths Mastery programmes and Maths Champions to further develop effective mathematics teaching, and OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) to enhance outdoor learning and play experiences across the school.

Alongside these opportunities, we work closely with educational consultants and our Trust School Improvement Team, who provide challenge, support and expertise to help us continually refine and strengthen our practice. This collaborative approach ensures that we remain reflective, ambitious and focused on securing the very best outcomes for every child.

By investing in our own learning and development, staying informed by the latest educational research and working alongside experienced school improvement professionals, we ensure that our practice remains current, evidence-informed and responsive to the needs of our pupils. This unwavering commitment to continuous improvement helps us provide the highest quality education possible, ensuring every child receives the opportunities, support and experiences they deserve during their one chance at primary school.
