At our school, we recognise that transition is a vital part of every child's educational journey. Whether children are starting Nursery, joining Reception, moving into school from another setting, arriving later in their primary years, or preparing for the move to secondary school, a carefully planned transition helps them feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Successful transitions support children's emotional wellbeing by helping them build trusting relationships, become familiar with new routines, and develop a sense of belonging within their new environment. When children feel secure and settled, they are more likely to engage positively with learning, develop friendships, and achieve their full potential.
We understand that change can be both exciting and challenging. This is particularly true for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), children who are vulnerable, or those who may have experienced disruption in their education or home life. For these children, effective transition arrangements are especially important. Additional visits, personalised support plans, close communication with families, and collaboration with outside agencies help ensure that individual needs are understood and met from the very beginning.
Our commitment to transition extends beyond the first day. We work closely with families, early years providers, other schools, and secondary settings to share information and build a clear understanding of every child's strengths, needs, and aspirations. Through a range of carefully planned activities, visits, and opportunities to meet key staff, we help children feel prepared and confident at every stage of their educational journey.
By placing transition at the heart of our provision, we ensure that every child, regardless of their starting point, is given the best possible foundation for success, wellbeing, and lifelong learning.
