Year 3's Remote Education Journey...

Year 3 are working so very hard at home and Miss Dickinson and Miss Sherburn are so proud of EVERYONE!

We are receiving some really wonderful pieces of work. Please keep checking back here to see a sample of the wonderful learning that is currently taking place as the weeks go by...

Week 1 (Week commencing 4th January) - We started our new class novel , "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" and began to explore the main characters. In Maths, we learnt about length and perimeter. We also started learning about our new topic, Ancient Greece.

Week 2 (Week commencing 11th January) - This week, we started to focus on fairy-tales as there is one told in our class novel - we created a story board of this fairy tale, and then planned and wrote our own. We continued with our length and perimter work in Maths. We learnt about Greek vases in History/Art and even designed our own. We had a French lesson and recapped on how to count to 10, and we also started a new unit in Science - learning about Plants.

Week 3 (Week commencing 18th January) - In our class novel, one of the main characters goes on a journey on the HMS Queen Mary, so we have started to plan a non-chronological report about this famous ship. We have done our own research, planned and began to write the report, making sure we include all of the features. We have started a new Maths Mastery unit - Multiplication and Division, focusing on commutative law and inverse operations. We continued with our Science unit and learnt about the parts of a plant and their functions. In French, we learnt some classroom instructions.

Week 4 (Week commencing 25th January) - In English this week, we plotted the main points of the story so far and then started to plan and write a diary entry from the perspective of the main character, Edward Tulane. In Maths, we continued with our learning about multiplication and division and in Topic, we learnt about the Ancient Greek democracy. In Science, we continued our work about plants and learnt about the different parts of a plant.

Week 5 (Week commencing 1st February) - This week was Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, so we tried to include some activities that make us happy! In English, we thought about our senses and wrote a poem about being in a landfill site because that's where Edward Tulane ended up! In Science, we learnt about the life cycle of a plant. We did some essential life skills work this week and had a lesson all about road safety. Friday was 'Dress to Express' day, so we dressed up in clothes that express us and our personalities. We also had some fun in the snow this week! It's been a busy one!

Week 6 (Week commencing 8th February) - In English this week, we took a break from our class novel and refreshed our SPaG skills with some learning about prepositions, adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs. We also worked on our inference skills and inferred from a picture. In Maths, we continued with multiplication and division, multiplying and dividing numbers by 10 and 100, as well as deriving facts from known facts. There was an art focus this week - we designed and built our own Greek temples, as well as taking part in the whole-school "I am..." art challenge. We also looked at a photograph of a wave which people believe contains the face of the Greek god, Poseidon, and we had a go at recreating the image!
